"The Hanover Dragoons
Camp #827, SCV"
April Camp Meeting

The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, S.C.V. held it's
April meeting of 2004 on Wednesday, April 21st
at historic Slash Christian Church
located on Mt. Hermon Road, Ashland, VA

We had a great time! We had a great guest speaker, great turnout, great food, great fellowship and inducted our newest member.
What a great meeting!

Our guest speaker was Mr. Tilghman Broaddus who presented his talk to us about his own Confederate ancestor, titled "Edmund Ruffin, Prophet of Marl, Prophet without Honor".
This was a very timely and informative talk!
Edmund Ruffin was not only a Hanover County resident, but was indeed the Confederate behind the "shot that started the War Between the States".
It was a great discussion and we thorougly enjoyed Mr. Broaddus' slideshow and handouts. What a great way to celebrate Confederate History and Heritage Month in Hanover County than by learning about such a notable local Confederate hero.

During our April meeting, Compatriot Don McAbee was sworn in and received his Certificates of Membership with The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, Sons of Confederate Veterans. We warmly welcome him to our Camp!

Our Camp discussed our various projects such as our upcoming headstone dedications, the maintenance of the Yellow Tavern monument, care/maintenance of other local markers, the Confederate Heritage Parade and much more. If you would like details on any of these projects, please contact Cmdr. Millikin.

Our Camp held it's first dual headstone service on Saturday, April 3rd at 10:00am at Enon United Methodist Church on Studley Road in Hanover County. This was a dual Headstone & Iron Cross Dedication service co-hosted by The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Hanover Chapter No. 1399, United Daughters of the Confederacy. We had over 100 in attendance for this very special day! For more info and photos, please visit the Dual Headstone Dedication. The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827 would like to thank Enon United Methodist Church and Mr. Bob Tate for their support and assistance with this important project.

We have lots of projects going on and lots of activities for all ages.
Come on out & enjoy the comradery!
