"The Hanover Dragoons
Camp #827, SCV"
February Camp Meeting

The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, S.C.V. held it's
February meeting of 2004 on Wednesday, February 18th
at historic Slash Christian Church
located on Mt. Hermon Road, Ashland, VA

We had a great turnout! Our regular Camp Compatriots came out in force as well as our new member, Don McAbee. We also had visiting with us two Compatriots from the Capt. William Latane Camp #1690, two Compatriots from the Cold Harbor Guards Camp #1997 and Mrs. Theresa T. Willson from the General Stuart Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. What a great gathering of Confederate kindred folks!

Our special guest was Colonel John Singleton Mosby (aka Mr. Jeffrey Smith) who recruited our Camp Compatriots to the Confederate Cavalry. Mr. Smith was a most excellent speaker and we are most appreciative to him for speaking to us about the life and times of Colonel Mosby. It was an excellent program!

During our February meeting, Compatriot Ron Reynolds was sworn in and received his Certificate of Membership with The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, Sons of Confederate Veterans. We warmly welcome Ron to our Camp!

We had a very special moment at our February Camp meeting and that was the unveiling of The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827 flag! We have been working on this project for quite some time. Thanks to the extremely generous contributions of various groups and individuals our Camp flag was unveiled by the two Camp Compatriots who worked on and designed it - Adj/Trsr Mike Tyler and Quartermaster Jason Talley. I'm sure even our ancestors could hear our loud and very happy cheers & applause when this beautiful flag was unfurled. Our special thanks to Jim Timberlake and his staff for their beautifully detailed work.

Our Camp will hold a dual headstone service on Saturday, April 3rd at 10:00am at Enon United Methodist Church on Studley Road in Hanover County. This will be a dual Headstone & Iron Cross Dedication service co-hosted by The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Hanover Chapter No. 1399, United Daughters of the Confederacy. Please be sure to come out for this memorable service!

We have lots of projects going on and lots of activities for all ages. Come on out & enjoy the comradery!
