March Camp Meeting
The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, S.C.V. held it's |
March meeting of 2004 on Wednesday, March 17th
at historic Slash Christian Church
located on Mt. Hermon Road, Ashland, VA
We had a great time! We had a great guest speaker, great turnout, great food, great fellowship and inducted two of our newest members.
Our special guest was Chief Master Sgt. Edward Harris, who gave an excellent discussion "Nathan Bedford Forrest 1821-1877". Mr. Harris was an excellent speaker and we are most appreciative to him for speaking to us about the life of Nathan Bedford Forrest. His artwork added quite the touch to the discussion and we also thank his assistant, Mrs. Theresa Willson for her help.
It was an excellent program!
During our March meeting, Compatriots James Dobbins and Tom Kirby were sworn in and received their Certificates of Membership with The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, Sons of Confederate Veterans. We warmly welcome both to our Camp!
Our Camp discussed our various projects such as our upcoming headstone dedications, the maintenance of the Yellow Tavern monument, care/maintenance of other local markers, the Confederate Heritage Parade and much more. If you would like details on any of these projects, please contact Cmdr. Millikin.
Our Camp will hold the dual headstone service on Saturday, April 3rd at 10:00am at Enon United Methodist Church on Studley Road in Hanover County. This will be a dual Headstone & Iron Cross Dedication service co-hosted by The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Hanover Chapter No. 1399, United Daughters of the Confederacy. Please be sure to come out for this memorable service! For more info, please visit the Camp Headstone Project Link. The headstones have been installed as of Monday, March 22nd. The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827 would like to thank Enon United Methodist Church and Mr. Bob Tate for their assistance with this important project.
We have lots of projects going on and lots of activities for all ages.
