The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, S.C.V. held it's May meeting of 2004 on Wednesday, May 19th at historic Slash Christian Church located on Mt. Hermon Road, Ashland, VA
We had a super meeting! We enjoyed seeing our regular Compatriots, some guests and some new members!
Our guest speaker was Mr. Bill Ward of the Southern Soldiers Remembrance Fund. His talk about remembering and honoring our Confederate Veterans was a very timely discussion as we would be celebrating Confederate Memorial Day here in Virginia on May 31st. It was a great discussion and we are planning on taking up donations within our Camp to present to the SSRF to be used for a headstone for a Confederate Veteran. What a great way to remember and pay true honor to our Confederate Heroes! If you would like to make a contribution to this most worthy cause, please send your donation to our Camp Adj/Trsr. Mike Tyler.
During our May meeting, several of our Compatriots were surprised when they were presented Certificates from the outgoing Virginia Division Commander, Brag Bowling, for their hard work and dedication. Way to go Compatriots!
Our Camp received many kind remarks regarding the "job well done" on the maintenance of the Yellow Tavern monument by UDC and SCV members alike. If you would like details on this or any of our Camp projects, please contact Cmdr. Millikin.
Our Camp also participated in the Confederate Memorial Day program at Huguenot Spring Cemetery in Powhatan County. It was standing room only and a great program. Please plan on attending next year if you didn't make it this year!
We had our first table/booth at Hanover County Heritage Day on Saturday, May 29th. We had lots of interest and did very well with our recruiting and fundraising. Way to go Compatriots! Be sure to check out the photos on the Heritage Day link!
We're a steadily growing and active Camp and we welcome visitors to any/all of our meetings!
