"The Hanover Dragoons|
Camp #827, SCV"
May 2005 Meeting
Compatriots & Prospective Members,|
We had a great attendance at our May Camp meeting! Great show of faces by our Camp Compatriots. Let’s repeat it in June before we go on our summer break! We have really been busy lately!
During our May meeting, we were honored to have as our guest speaker, Commander Ken Chandler of the R.E. Lee Camp (and of Richmond Discoveries), who spoke to us about the “The Confederate Soldier”. Ken is a great speaker and we thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the different things he brought with him for his discussion.
The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827 has participated in two headstone & iron cross dedication services during the month of May. We co-hosted one for Sgt. Pembroke S. Leake in the Glen Allen area and we participated in another for Private William P. Toney in Buckingham County. More photos will be posted on our website and will be added to our Camp Scrapbook. Both were quite successful services with not only great weather, but great turnouts as well.
The Virginia Division, SCV Convention was also held this month and it was a grand event indeed! It was held at the Sheraton West in Richmond and actor, Patrick Falci (portrays A.P. Hill in the movies Gettysburg/Gods & Generals) was the guest speaker. He was definitely an incredible speaker! (See photo below from Gettysburg.com website)
We will have our booth again this year at Hanover Heritage Days on Saturday, May 28th from 10am to 4pm. Come on out & lend a hand or at least stop by and show your support for your Camp!
Our next Camp (and last one until September, 2005) will be Wednesday, June 15th at Slash Church. Our guest speaker will be Ms. Virginia Martin, noted historian and author of "Marching Through Culpeper". This is sure to be an informative meeting that you won't want to miss! Social time begins at 6pm, followed by dinner ($11 per person) then guest speaker & Camp business. Be sure to bring a friend, relative or any interested person with you!
We are continuing to steadily grow with members both young and young at heart.
