"The Hanover Dragoons
Camp #827, SCV"
September 2004 Meeting

Compatriots & Prospective Members,

We had a great turnout at our Camp meeting on September 15th! Our guest speaker was Mr. Tom Perry, Founder of the J.E.B. Stuart Birthplace Preservation Trust Inc. Mr. Perry has been extremely active in preserving Stuart's birthplace and in educating many, many others on the life of J.E.B. Stuart. His discussion and slideshow presentation titled “J.E.B. Stuart’s Last Ride: The Battle of Yellow Tavern” was simply outstanding! We are honored and extremely grateful he came to speak to our Camp during his busy schedule.

During our September meeting we received applications for three new members and welcomed a transferring member to our Camp! We welcome Robert Jordan, Joe Seay and Ben Tyler as our newest members and we welcome Bob Cox, who has transferred his membership with us as well. We have two more gentlemen who are in the process of transferring their memberships with us and we are happy to welcome Jerry Boone and his grandson too! What a great way to start off our new year of meetings with so many members! We warmly welcome each of you and The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827 is both honored and happy to have you!

We sure were busy as a Camp during the month of September! Our Camp participated in a very wet & windy Field Days of the Past in Montpelier, continued to do an excellent job maintaining the grounds at Yellow Tavern and worked almost every day helping to man the VA Division, SCV booth at the Virginia State Fair. GREAT JOB COMPATRIOTS!!!

Our next meeting will be Wed., October 20th and our guest speaker will be Author/Historian Gary C. Walker, who will discuss his latest book, “A General History of the Civil War - The Southern Point of View”. Please come out and bring a friend, co-worker, family member or prospective member with you. We are continuing to steadily grow with members both young and young at heart.
Come out and enjoy the fellowship of fellow Compatriots and some great food.

I look forward to seeing each of you on October 20th!

Compatriots & Prospective Members,

We had a great turnout at our Camp meeting on June 16th. Our guest speaker and SCV Compatriot, Mr. Sam W. Craghead, member of the Civil War Roundtable, presented his talk "The Coming of the Ironclad Navy". His discussion was incredible with many outstanding artifacts to enjoy. It was a great meeting!

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, September 15th at the Fellowship Hall at Slash Christian Church in Ashland.
Social time at 6pm followed by dinner,
guest speaker and Camp business.
Our guest speaker will be Mr. Thomas Perry on J.E.B. Stuart and Laurel Hill. Mr. Perry is a very popular and knowledgable guest speaker so this is sure to be a great discussion!

We welcomed and inducted one of our newest members during our June Camp meeting. Mr. Chris Toler was inducted and we are certainly proud and glad to have him in our Camp! Welcome Chris!

Our Camp does break during the summer months so our members can enjoy the summer with their families and friends. We hope everyone has a safe, happy and healthy summer. We look forward to everyone coming together for some great food and fellowship in the autumn.

We are continuing with our hard work maintaining the Yellow Tavern monument and we continue to hear what great work we are doing. While you are out and about travelling with your family, do some recruiting, watch for graves that may need markers, invite someone to come to our September meeting with you. We are continuing to steadily grow with members both young and young at heart. Everyone is welcome and we look forward to seeing not only our familiar faces, but those who haven't been able to attend for awhile and those who are new.
Come out and enjoy the fellowship of fellow Compatriots
and some great food.
I look forward to seeing each of you on Sept. 15th!
