"The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, SCV" Headstone Dedications
|
The Hanover Dragoons Camp #827 currently has participated in several headstone/iron cross dedication services in the past five years.
Our first service was held Saturday, April 3rd, 2004 at 10:00 am at Enon United Methodist Church on Studley Road. This was a Dual Headstone and Iron Cross service and The Hanover Dragoons co-hosted this service with the Hanover Chapter, UDC. We had a great turnout for this event! We had another headstone service which took place in the western area of Hanover County to honor the Confederate Veteran ancestor of one of our Camp Compatriots and was quietly done in 2004 at the request of the family. On May 14, 2005 our Camp participated along with the Hanover Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy in a headstone/iron cross service for Pembroke S. Leake for SCV & UDC members in Missouri at Shady Grove U.M.C. in Glen Allen,VA. We had a wonderful turnout and tremendous support from various Camps in the area in making this a special day for family who had come from so far away to see this happen. On May 22, 2005 our Camp participated with the Highbridge Camp 1581 and the Hanover Chapter UDC in a headstone/iron cross service for William Pleasant Toney in Buckingham County,VA. Another great turnout was had & it was quite a memorable day for all the family! Since our successful headstone/iron cross services in the past, we have been contacted about several more headstones in & around Hanover County. We are currently working on these and if you would like more details, please contact Cmdr. Millikin for more details.
Please check back to this page for additional details as they are finalized.
